Indie Beauty Brands Surpass $500 Million on TikTok Shop
Top indie beauty brands generated over $512 million on TikTok Shop, led by K-beauty powerhouse Dr. Melaxin's viral skincare sensations.
From wrinkle reduction to hair growth to whiter teeth and better sleep, TikTok Shop’s biggest indie beauty success stories are becoming less about hype and more about solving everyday problems for shoppers, and that trend is driving serious revenue.
A new ranking of the platform’s top 25 selling indie beauty brands from the e-commerce intelligence platform Charm.io shows that, collectively, they generated approximately $512.8 million in revenue for the 12 months ending June 2026. Korean skincare brand Dr. Melaxin was the big winner. Its viral sensations, including Cemenrete Calcium Multi Balm and Peel Shot exfoliators, raked in $142.2 million in sales, representing nearly 28% of the group’s total. This viral momentum has also fueled the brand's global expansion, as seen when Dr. Melaxin launched in India via Tira to bring its popular skincare formulations to new markets.
Men’s grooming brand Based Bodyworks followed in second place with $50.6 million in revenue, while hair growth specialist Bask and Lather came in third with $29 million. Oral care company GuruNanda landed at fourth place with $23 million and haircare brand Canvas Beauty rounded out the top five, netting $20.6 million for the period.
Together, the top five indie brands on TikTok Shop generated $265.6 million over the past year, accounting for about 51.8% of the list’s total sales. Charm.io defines “indie” broadly to include brands that operate independently of major beauty conglomerates, even if they are owned by smaller parent companies, such as Dr. Melaxin, which is owned by South Korean direct-to-consumer beauty company BRAND501 Corp.
Beauty brands in Charm.io’s ranking remain concentrated within skincare, haircare and fragrance with Truly Beauty, GoPure, Kitsch and Oudware in the top 10. However, hair tools, body care, skincare devices, oral care, makeup and wellness also found momentum with shoppers through viral hits from brands like Sacheu Beauty, L’ange Hair, M3 Naturals and Root Labs.
The indie ranking mirrors the same themes dominating TikTok Shop’s broader beauty industry. Skincare remained the platform’s leading category over the last year ending in June, rising 123% from the previous period, according to a second quarter report from Charm.io. Fragrance and haircare were also among the platform’s top five categories, with oral care products aimed at whitening and hygiene picking up steam.
Beauty sales on TikTok Shop rose 82% year-over-year in the second quarter of 2026 to reach $980 million in gross merchandise value (GMV), roughly one-third of Ulta Beauty’s most recent quarterly earnings. Medicube and Dr. Melaxin occupied the top two positions across all beauty storefronts during the quarter. This performance mirrors their success on other major platforms, where brands like Medicube and Tarte dethroned legacy beauty giants during Amazon's Prime Day.
Alex Nisenzon, CEO of Charm.io, argues that beauty brands driving the most sales on TikTok Shop quickly capitalize on trends while leveraging creators to highlight product benefits and dramatic transformations. “Many indie brands have been quick to create content that educates, entertains and demonstrates value in a way that resonates with consumers,” he says. “For example, the founder of Canvas Beauty drove over $1 million in sales from a single TikTok livestream, as her authenticity has helped to build trust among consumers.”
He adds that TikTok Shop has fundamentally changed what it takes to build a successful beauty brand. “Unlike traditional retail, where shelf space, brand recognition and large marketing budgets have historically determined who wins, TikTok Shop gives independent brands the opportunity to compete directly alongside global beauty companies as creator-driven content drives discoverability and demand,” Nisenzon asserts.
Rather than relying on legacy brand recognition, digitally-savvy indie brands have built products and marketing strategies around TikTok’s communities and creator ecosystem to sharpen their competitive edge. Nisenzon points to brands like Sacheu and Based Bodyworks as prime examples of this strategy.
“Sacheu’s Lip Liner Stay-N went viral on TikTok, and the brand has continued to develop social-friendly products that show long-lasting wear easily demonstrated by creators. Based has also grown alongside TikTok, leaning into the looksmaxxing culture with men’s grooming content. It has built an identity native to TikTok communities,” he says.
Not every indie beauty brand can break through the noise on social commerce platform TikTok Shop. Glancing at Charm.io’s ranking, the sales are far from evenly distributed. Dr. Melaxin alone generated almost three times the revenue of Based Bodyworks, and roughly 16X the earnings of the 25th place storefront, Aroma Concepts. That concentration echoes a wider trend on TikTok Shop, where more than half of the platform’s approximately 803,500 storefronts in the United States recorded no sales in 2025.
A similar dynamic is taking hold on Amazon, where the number of bestselling beauty brands and products fell during the first quarter of the year as sales consolidated around brands utilizing aggressive growth tactics, like Medicube.
