E.l.f. Beauty Launches Haircare Line to Drive Next Phase of Growth

With products selling out within 48 hours of a soft launch and the potential to unlock over $100 million in incremental revenue, e.l.f. Beauty is making its next major move.

In 2004, e.l.f. Beauty disrupted the cosmetics industry with 13 makeup products priced at just $1. In 2022, it expanded into skincare with e.l.f. SKIN, and by 2025, it acquired Hailey Bieber’s skincare brand, Rhode, in a landmark $1 billion deal.

Now, the mass-market beauty giant is officially entering the haircare category with the launch of e.l.f. Hair.

The new line debuted on TikTok Shop on June 16, with rollouts on elfhaircare.com and target.com scheduled for June 24, followed by a full brick-and-mortar launch across all U.S. Target stores on July 5.

Why Now? A Launch Fueled by Fan Demand

In an interview published on June 15 by Vogue, Kory Marchisotto, President of e.l.f. Beauty, revealed that the e.l.f. Hair collection has been in development for about two years. "Because this is an entirely new category for us, we wanted to make sure the formulations were absolutely perfect. Doing it right takes time," Marchisotto said.

This deliberate timeline shows that e.l.f. Hair is not a temporary brand extension or a short-term experiment. The decision to enter the haircare space is backed by strong consumer data.

According to the brand's official website, the launch was driven by overwhelming fan demand and favorable market trends. An internal survey showed that 77% of e.l.f. followers expressed interest in buying haircare from the brand. Meanwhile, industry research indicates that 84% of consumers view their hair as a key form of self-expression.

Furthermore, during e.l.f. Beauty's TikTok live streams, haircare and fragrance have consistently emerged as the two most requested categories.

"Our community has been begging us to bring our 'e.l.f.fordable luxury' philosophy to haircare, and we listened," Marchisotto stated. "Launching e.l.f. Hair is the natural next step for us. We have always believed that high-quality beauty should be accessible to everyone—eyes, lips, face, and now, hair. We took our community's feedback and combined it with innovation to build a complete haircare collection."

The brand didn't just rely on surveys; it also tested the waters. In March, e.l.f. Beauty quietly released the Power Grip Styling Wand and the Power Grip Hair Gel+Brush set. These limited-edition styling products sold out within 48 hours. Social media sentiment was 96% positive, and remarkably, 65% of the buyers were entirely new to the e.l.f. Beauty brand.

This successful trial proved that haircare could not only drive repeat purchases from existing loyalists but also serve as a powerful customer acquisition tool, bringing in new shoppers ready to spend on hair wellness.

Macroeconomic data also supports the timing. According to Euromonitor, driven by factors like medication-induced hair loss and a growing consumer focus on scalp health, the global haircare market is projected to grow by approximately 24% to reach $173 billion by 2030.

Premium Formulations for Under $10

The initial e.l.f. Hair lineup features six products spanning cleansing, conditioning, and styling:

Cleansing & Conditioning Basics

  • Never Thirsty Moisturizing Shampoo ($9): Gently cleanses to remove oil and product buildup, leaving hair soft and shiny with a bright fruity scent.
  • Never Thirsty Moisturizing Conditioner ($9): A lightweight formula that detangles and adds silky shine without weighing hair down.

Treatment & Styling

  • Gloss Mode Treatment Oil ($10): Clinically proven to reduce hair breakage by 88% while providing heat protection up to 450°F, featuring notes of vanilla and peony.
  • Humidity Hero Anti-Frizz Styling Spray ($9): A heat-activated formula that seals out moisture and blocks humidity for a sleek finish.
  • 3-in-Wonder Magic Styling Cream ($9): A multi-tasking cream that serves as a blowout primer, curl definer, and flexible styler with a citrus scent.
  • 3-in-Wonder Magic Styling Cream Wand ($6): A portable touch-up wand designed to tame frizz, flyaways, and baby hairs with a soft, flexible hold.

True to e.l.f. Beauty’s founding ethos, the new haircare line is highly accessible, with prices ranging from $6 to $10 on TikTok Shop.

To put this pricing into perspective, comparable high-performance products from premium brands like Color Wow, OUAI, and Olaplex typically retail around $30. E.l.f. Hair offers similar benefits at roughly a quarter of the price. Even at $9, its shampoo and conditioner are priced lower than many mainstream drugstore competitors.

By offering prestige-quality formulations at mass-market prices, e.l.f.’s "e.l.f.fordable luxury" positioning gives it a structural advantage as inflation-weary consumers look to trade down without sacrificing performance.

Building a Multi-Category Beauty Empire

From a corporate strategy perspective, the launch of e.l.f. Hair is a critical step in building a comprehensive beauty portfolio.

Over the past few years, e.l.f. Beauty has systematically expanded its footprint: acquiring clean beauty brand Well People in 2020, launching e.l.f. SKIN in 2022, acquiring Hailey Bieber’s Rhode in 2025, and now introducing e.l.f. Hair in 2026.

Each expansion has yielded strong results. Following its launch, e.l.f. SKIN drove a 19% increase in the company's skincare sales for fiscal year 2022. Meanwhile, the Rhode acquisition has outperformed expectations, generating an annualized net sales run rate of approximately $390 million—an 80% year-over-year increase. This performance led e.l.f. Beauty to record a $57.6 million fair value adjustment in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2026.

For fiscal year 2026, e.l.f. Beauty reported a 25% increase in net sales to $1.64 billion, marking its seventh consecutive year of dual growth in both net sales and market share. As global color cosmetics growth begins to shift—a trend mirrored in other major markets where base makeup leads growth as color cosmetics polarize—diversification has become a strategic necessity.

Entering the haircare market offers significant upside. Analysts at Jefferies estimate the U.S. haircare market at $19.3 billion, with the mass segment accounting for $11.4 billion. If e.l.f. Hair captures just 1% of the U.S. mass haircare market, it would generate approximately $114 million in incremental revenue.

Investment firm Canaccord notes that every 1% market share gain in haircare could boost e.l.f. Beauty's overall sales growth rate by more than two percentage points. Given that the total addressable market for haircare is larger than that of color cosmetics, the long-term potential is substantial.

However, rapid expansion is not without risks. Firms like Piper Sandler and Morgan Stanley have raised concerns about slowing growth in the brand's core makeup business, and e.l.f. Beauty reported a net loss of $49.4 million in Q4 of fiscal 2026.

Whether haircare can become the group's next major growth engine remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: over the past 22 years, e.l.f. Beauty has evolved from a budget makeup brand with 13 products into a diversified, multi-category beauty powerhouse.

This focus on market evolution aligns with the upcoming 2026 iPDF (International Future Packaging) Exhibition, scheduled for July 1–3, 2026, at the Guangzhou Airport Expo Center. The event will feature the third Beauty Cross-Border Export Conference, offering dedicated sessions on global compliance, localized marketing, and supply chain integration for markets including South Korea, Indonesia, and the United States.
