Shanghai Beauty Summit Highlights Supply Chain Synergy and AI for Global Growth

The 3rd China Beauty Going-Global Conference opened on August 22 at the Pullman Shanghai Zhongxing Hotel, hosted by trade publication China Cosmetics and exclusively sponsored by cosmetics contract manufacturer Tengyu Group.

The one-day event featured a main executive summit, three specialized international expansion forums, more than 30 industry experts, and 23 prominent overseas buyers representing 14 countries. Building on trade momentum where global beauty buyers headed to Shanghai for sourcing, the gathering connected domestic beauty supply chains directly with international distribution channels.

In addition to keynotes, the conference hosted targeted buyer matchmaking sessions, a closed-door executive networking dinner, and a C-Beauty global supply chain ecosystem exhibition displaying raw materials, packaging innovation, contract manufacturing, formula R&D, and regulatory services.

Sessions spanned strategic markets across Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and North America, tackling core operational challenges from regulatory compliance to localized branding and cross-border digital marketing.

Three Core Signals Shaping C-Beauty's Overseas Strategy

1. Full Supply Chain Collaboration Replaces Solo Brand Expansion

The era of cosmetics brands expanding overseas in isolation has ended. The summit highlighted an emerging consensus across Chinese beauty: success requires integrated collaboration between brand owners and supply chain partners.

Tengyu Group detailed full-service OEM/ODM support from raw formulation to retail shelf placement; global quality testing firm Intertek outlined international regulatory clearance pathways; cross-border e-commerce software vendor Jushuitan addressed digital integration; and packaging manufacturer Shenzhen Zexi demonstrated structural packaging innovations for global brands. By uniting raw materials, R&D, packaging, compliance, and software services, Chinese beauty suppliers are building systemic operational barriers.

2. Deep Localization Becomes the Operational Lifeline

Effective globalization requires brands to combine a global product strategy with local operational execution. Cai Yuli, international business lead at Proya Cosmetics Co., Ltd.—a Shanghai-listed beauty conglomerate with annual revenue of approximately 10 billion yuan ($1.49 billion USD)—shared how the group moved from simple channel distribution to establishing long-term brand equity in Southeast Asia.

He Tao, founder of cosmetics brand HEYXI, outlined how localized manufacturing and tailored market positioning generated 300 million yuan ($44.6 million USD) in annual sales in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Xiaomifang founder Zhu Xiangbing discussed operational lessons from entering Japan's competitive lip-care market. Presenters emphasized that international markets increasingly favor brands that establish genuine local roots over casual exporters.

3. AI Restructures Efficiency and Elevates Digital Marketing

Moving beyond reliance on single advertising platforms, artificial intelligence is reshaping cross-border marketing infrastructure. Tu Yuhao of Vietnam Qiyue Media demonstrated how AI content tools help cross language barriers, generating localized short-form marketing assets in 10 to 15 minutes.

Guo Hanrun, co-founder of e-commerce analytics platform Kalodata, decoded viral product trends across North American retail channels. Executives from TikTok Shop and TikTok for Business presented growth playbooks for the U.S. market, aligning with broader shifts where TikTok Shop beauty sales surged across international markets. Industry experts agreed that cross-border beauty marketing has shifted from ad-spend volume to precision targeting, omnichannel coordination, and agile operational execution.
