Thai Fragrance Brand Pañpuri Opens First China Boutique in Shanghai
Thai fragrance house Pañpuri has opened its first mainland China boutique in Shanghai, showcasing oil-based scents and sensory retail design.
Pañpuri, the Thai niche fragrance and holistic beauty brand acquired by Japanese cosmetics conglomerate Kosé in 2024, is stepping up its Asian retail expansion with its first standalone boutique in mainland China at HKRI Taikoo Hui, a luxury retail center in downtown Shanghai.
Founded by Thai entrepreneur Vorravit Siripark in 2003, Pañpuri draws on traditional Thai oil rituals. Its core assortment highlights natural ingredients in hero offerings like Milk Bath and Body Oil alongside its Extract Perfume Oil, which spans roughly 20 unisex fragrances.
Siripark, who serves as chief executive officer, views the Shanghai store as a key platform to capture growing demand in China's fine fragrance market while introducing the concept of "skinification"—formulating olfactory products that deliver both distinct scents and skin care benefits. Similar shifts toward hybrid sensory experiences are unfolding across markets, as seen when Sol de Janeiro launches premium mists to tap upmarket fragrance demand.
"I think Chinese consumers are open to new ideas and willing to explore fragrance, making this a dynamic market for us," Siripark said, noting that consumers in both China and Thailand are increasingly reconnecting with regional cultural roots. "As long as you know your roots, feel confident about where you come from, and integrate that heritage into contemporary life, it becomes deeply relevant to consumers."
"In Thailand, we have traditionally lived with body oils to stay connected to nature," Siripark added. "When creating perfumes, we wanted to return to ancient, alcohol-free perfumery. Because oil nourishes the skin and doesn't project aggressively like alcohol, it stays close to the body as an act of self-care." The brand plans to expand on this ethos next year by debuting Care Eau de Parfum, a water-based, alcohol-free fragrance line formulated for China.
The physical boutique is structured around experiential storytelling, mirroring sensory retail strategies used across luxury fragrance doors worldwide, much like Diptyque's expanded Harrods counter in London.
Designed around a philosophy of "Quiet Architecture," the space translates brand values of stillness, reflection, and emotional grounding into physical form. Architectural elements draw from natural textures, structural columns, and grounded stone bases, featuring curved interior lines and shifting light accents conceived as "The Sanctuary of Scent."
The Shanghai boutique carries Pañpuri's complete portfolio, including signature fine fragrances, body care lines, home ambience products like candles and sachets, and its Andaman Sails solid perfume collection.
